World Book Day Celebrations

We look forward to celebrating World Book Day which will take place on Thursday March 1st 2018. Over the last 22 years, World Book Day has become firmly established as Ireland’s biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading. This day is celebrated in schools and libraries in over 30 countries around the world.

Activities during the week

Children will enjoy many book related activities during the week:

  • Reading together: On Thursday, all the children from the Senior School will be meeting children from the Junior School and will read together. This is always a lovely occasion. Teachers will also enjoy sharing their favourite stories with children from a class other than their own on the day. All classes will be invited to explore the World Book Day website www.worldbook.day.com where they will meet new authors and take part in class based activities.

  • Bring A Book to School: All children are invited to bring their favourite book from home to school on Thursday to mark World Book Day. If you have books in languages other than English which the

children use at home, please feel free to send them in too!

  • Design a Bookmark Competition: Again this year we will be hosting a ‘Design a Bookmark’ competition and there will be lots of prizes!! We know the children will really enjoy this day in their classrooms.

  • World Book day Token: Finally, the children will receive a €1.50 World Book Day Book Token to spend on a book of their choice or they may exchange the token for one of the specially produced €1.50 books available in participating bookshops. These tokens are valid until the end of March.
