6th Class Educational Trip to City Centre

6th class had a fantastic educational tour this week. Each class went to visit the Natural History Museum where they received a tour from zoologist educator Catherine McGuinness. They learnt about the great Irish explorers and the animals they brought back to the Natural History Museum! The children did a treasure hunt activity where they explored the Mammals of the World Exhibition.

Ms. Oakes’ and Ms. Horan’s classes also visited the Little Museum of Dublin where they explored the history of Dublin from the 1800’s to the 1990’s. The children looked at the history of the 1916 Rising, including why the fighting stopped at Stephens Green for an hour every day so the grounds keeper could feed the ducks! , they watched an old TV, explored the U2 room, the history of the Irish Times, as well as much more.

Mr. Lally’s and Ms. Boyle’s classes visited The National Gallery of Ireland where Daisy Kerrigan’s mum had kindly organised a guided tour of the Irish Art on show. Our tour guide Aoife Convery challenged us to view art in different ways and showed us how each painting tells its own unique story personal to its artist. A highlight was the exhibition of the art of Countess Markievicz and her husband Casimir which is located in the Hugh Lane section. The tour concluded with and in-depth lesson on the spectacular Caravaggio which we all thoroughly enjoyed looking at and listening to.

One of the highlights of the day for the children was eating lunch in Merrion Square and playing in the playground! A great day was had by all!
