Industrial Action by School Secretaries

Dear parents,

Following a ballot by their union Forsa, school secretaries who are funded through the Ancillary Service Grant system are to take industrial action to address pay and pension related issues.

This involves a one day stoppage which will take place tomorrow, Friday the 10th January. Our school secretaries Marie and Anita will take part in this work stoppage. There will be a half-hour picket outside the school tomorrow morning. We are assured by FORSA that it is not their intention to disrupt the education of any child, so children may be dropped to school as normal. FORSA has also indicated that secretaries will commence a Work to Rule from the 10th January as part of their industrial action.

The aim of the action is to highlight the grievance of school secretaries, who feel that they should be paid by the Department of Education directly. This is a very worthy campaign and we feel that the Department of Education must ensure that school secretaries have parity for the valuable work they do.

Yours Sincerely,

Alma Moran Enda McGorman
