Remembering Aisling Murphy

Today, our school community stood in silence in an act of remembrance for Aisling Murphy.

At 11 o’clock, all pupils and staff stopped what they were doing- whether in their classrooms or yard- as a mark of respect.

We said the following short prayer together:

Prayer for Ashling Murphy RIP

Lord Jesus you cried at the death of Lazarus your friend,

Console Ashling’s parents, family and friends.

May the prayers of Mary, Mother of God,

who stood by the cross as her son was dying,

help the Murphy family, the pupils and staff of Durrow N.S. at this time,

may Ashling live, radiant and forever young in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Amen.

This was followed by a minute’s silence, which was observed with dignity and solemnity by all.

We have all been deeply affected by Aisling’s death- the fact that she was so young, that she was a teacher just starting out on her career, that she had such talent and had such promise ahead of her, and that her death was so traumatic- all of this has contributed to a sense of anguish and sorrow.

We must all re-commit to working together as a community to ensure that we bring our young people up in a spirit of mutual respect, tolerance and concern for each other.

May Aisling’s good and gentle soul rest in peace.

Enda McGorman
