Coping with Change and Loss

Dear Parent / Carer,

We are very fortunate to be in a position to offer a very successful educational programme called Seasons for Growth, in conjunction with Barnardos to children in 5th and 6th classes.

Coping with Change and Loss

Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some point in our lives. We recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce, homelessness or related circumstances, children may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively.

What is the Seasons for Growth Programme?

The Seasons for Growth programme supports children who have experienced such change or loss through group peer-support.

Seasons for Growth supports and helps children manage changes in their lives and gives them a better understanding of how they can manage different emotions.

The programme is based on research that highlights the importance of social support and the need to practice new skills to cope effectively with change and loss.

The programme focuses on issues such as self-esteem, managing feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication, and support networks. It gives an opportunity for young people to share their story with other young people who have also experienced life changes through loss.

How it will be offered in Mary, Mother of Hope Senior National School?

A trained facilitator from Barnardos will facilitate the Seasons for Growth programme in our school. It will be delivered over 8 weeks. Each weekly session is one hour approximately.

It is open to children from 5th and 6th classes, and there will be no more than 6 children in the group.

If you would like you child to take part in the programme, please let us know

If you think that your son or daughter would benefit from Seasons for Growth or if you would like any further information, please contact Ms. Fitzpatrick at 01-8128693 by Wednesday 27th April @ 2.30pm.

With best wishes,

Yours Sincerely,

Enda McGorman

25th April 2022.
