Important: Return of Book Rental Next Week

Dear parents,

I hope that you are all keeping well.

Last week I wrote to you informing you that we would be returning pupil possessions on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

We have special procedures in place for our 6th class pupils, which are different to arrangements for all other classes. We will be asking each 6th class child to come to the school, accompanied by their parent if possible.

These are set out in detail below:

  1. Return of pupils possessions

The children will receive the following:

  • An Individual Letter addressed to each pupil from their teacher, marking the end of the school year

  • Certificate for Excellent Attendance, where these have been awarded to pupils who have missed 5 days of the school year or less, when the school was in session.

  • Trophies for Attendance, where pupils have not missed a day of the school year

  • We will also be handing over the Winner and Runner-Up awards for our Creative Writing and Art competitions.

  • Copies, Workbooks or textbooks that belong to each pupil will also be included in the pack

  • Some pieces of Artwork,

  • Contents of their personal organisers, if applicable

  • Any medical equipment that was left in the school before lock-down

6th class Pupils will also receive:

  • Their Graduation Medals

  • Their Graduation Booklet

  • Their Graduation Hoodie

Photograph to be taken

The Hoodies have been stored in the school in a sterile environment and have been individually packed. Graduating 6th class pupils will be asked to put on their Hoodie in the Community Centre and have their photograph taken by a member of staff, to be used in their end of year photo-story.

  1. Return of Textbooks from the Book Rental Scheme, Library Books etc. to the School

We will be asking parents to return all books that are part of the Book Rental Scheme, which your children brought home with them at the beginning of the lockdown to the school. These include:

  • Maths Book

  • English Reader

  • Irish Book

  • Library Book(s) belonging to school

  • and any other books or resources that they may have at home.

These can be returned to the school on the same day that pupils collect their own belongings.

  1. Plan for coming to the school

Parents and Pupils will be asked to the school at the time and day allocated below.

Parents and Pupils may also collect sibling’s possessions at this time too.

This will take place in the Community Centre.

Parents and Pupils will be asked to return Book Rental and other materials to a specific location in the Hall, that will be clearly marked.

  1. Health and Safety Considerations

These Collections and Returns will be contactless and in the interest of everyone’s health and safety, we ask you to please follow the guidelines below:

• We ask that no other children come to the school to collect packs.

• Pedestrian access only will be available at these times.

• Please only come to collect your child’s books at the allocated time.

• Please ensure that social distancing is maintained at all times.

• There will be a one way system in place on the campus and staff will be on the school grounds to direct parents safely to and from the collection point, please follow their directions.

If you are not in a position to come to the school at these times to collect your child’s books or if, for health and safety reasons you need to drive to the campus please let us know by emailing us at info@hopens.ie and we will arrange an alternative time for you. If you have any concerns about any of the above, please let us know.

We must emphasize the importance of maintaining social distancing while on the campus and following the instructions of staff at all times.

Take care and stay safe,

Enda McGorman
