On Wednesday, 8th October, our school had the honour of hosting a French delegation visiting Ireland as part of a French Study Visit on Wellbeing in Education. This initiative, led by the French Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research, aimed to explore Ireland’s innovative approaches to wellbeing in school settings.
Our school was recommended to the Department of Education by NEPS psychologists in recognition of our strong commitment to wellbeing. The Department asked us to facilitate a visit so the delegates could observe wellbeing practices as they naturally occur in a primary school setting.
The French delegation was warmly welcomed by our Student Council and our wonderful school choir. Ms. Fitzpatrick, Ms. MacNamara, and members of the management team gave a presentation outlining the many ways wellbeing is nurtured in our school community.
Following this, the delegates visited several classrooms to observe teaching and learning in action within the SPHE curriculum and our whole-school approach to wellbeing. They observed lessons from Walk Tall, Webwise, and Friends for Life, and even joined 4th Class for their Morning Meeting and a lively movement break of “a Ghostbuster Dance.”
In the library, the delegation met with our student-led committees, where our pupils proudly shared their roles, responsibilities, and contributions to promoting wellbeing across the school. Committees represented included:
Student Council
Green Schools Committee
Bí Cineálta Committee
Librarians
Digital Learning Team
STEM Ambassadors
Yard Monitors
The visit finished with a demonstration of our new PE game, “Down Ball,” followed by exciting displays of our national sports: GAA football, hurling, and camogie by our boys’ and girls’ teams.
It was a truly wonderful day. The French delegates were deeply impressed by our pupils, our staff, and the strong sense of community that underpins all we do. They thoroughly enjoyed their visit.
Bravo et Bien Joué everyone!
